Your City & Metropolitan Hospitals Charity, the independent registered charity of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB), require a provider to design, fabricate and install an inspirational piece of artwork or sculpture for The Learning Campus at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital site. The artwork needs to reflect what is going on within the building (education, training and getting people into employment) whilst considering the heritage of the site and the previous industries. The artwork will feature the story of how education, training and employment impacts on life chances and opportunities and addresses health inequalities by providing safety and security through employment.

The piece should reflect the diversity of the UK and more specifically the intense diversity of the area surrounding The Learning Campus. It could, for instance, reflect on the difficulties faced by communities in the past, and then focus on the positive future The Learning Campus will bring to the lives of those using the facility. The piece will be empowering, standing atop a concrete base at the entrance to the building.

We welcome the inclusion of salvaged items from the hospital site, such as millstones and The Archway of Tears, into the final design.

The final design will be approved by SWB in consultation with the Arts Committee and involvement of local community representatives.
